Football: Lincoln’s Robert Hampton steps down after 121 wins, more lives impacted

As a Lincoln High School alumnus and the school’s head coach for the past two decades, no one has promoted the program’s success more than Robert Hampton. But when he was championing the accomplishments, rarely did the talk stay focused on the on-field success forever recorded on banners, but rather what these same players did after high school.
“It became more and more of a mindset with us that you had to be more than just a football player,” Hampton said. “That’s why we had the sayings, ‘No One Rides for Free,’ ‘Our Heart is Our Talent.’ They bought into those messages and carried it (beyond high school) and you can see by the amount of teachers and cops that we have and other kids are doing well professionally and just honestly, good men.”
